Richard Hes was born in Mladá Boleslav in 1963 and studied at the dance department of the Prague conservatory. In the first nationwide competition in Bratislava in 1985 he won first prize for his choreography Autodestruction. As the choreographer and artistic director of the dance group UNO he has celebrated successes not only at home but also on several tours of Western Europe. He has created several original evening-long dance productions (Checkmate – Carmen, Nikita – Billiards) and musical shows in Western Europe, and he is the co-creator of the Slovak musical Keep Cool. He produced West Side Story in the Musical Theatre in Karlín, and as a thematic author and choreographer has been involved in the most successful large Czech musicals of recent years: Dracula and Monte Cristo. He created the musical show Mise for Daniel Hůlka.
