With this special anniversary performance, Orfeus wants to celebrate and remember all the musical pieces which have been showcased here over the years. Over the twenty years this European first uniting water, light, video projection and live ballet performances at Křižik’s Fountain has been going, it has achieved a completely new dimension. Over this period, Orfeus has showcased many original ballet musicals, some of which have become coveted and popular hits soon after their performances, and many of which the Fountain’s programme of shows could hardly be imagined without. Top of the list is the fairytale performance for all generations, The Little Mermaid, which was originally premiered in 2000. The turn of the millennium brought this beautiful and well-known tale from the collection of H C Anderson and tells the story of the unrequited love of a tender and innocent mermaid for a prince. A year after this now legendary musical performance came about, another original performance had its premier – Notre Dame de Paris. This tells the no less famous story of the fate of the courageous bell-ringer, Quasimodo, whose only soulmate is gypsy dancer, Esmeralda. The story which reveals the truth of who is truly human and beautiful and who is truly monstrous and nasty, has gained popularity amongst all generations of audience of the years. Another ballet musical project for the Fountain was the legend of the death of a civilisation, the death of the mythical kingdom of Atlantis. In 2010, the story of Tristan and Isolde was showcased for the first time, telling a timeless story of true love which has to overcome all the obstacles in its way to be fulfilled. In this unique production, you have the opportunity to enjoy the best bits of each performance and choose that which is closest to your heart. Leading ballet artists from the J K Tyl Theatre in Plzeň bring great performances to the characters under the direction of multiple Thalia award winner, director and choreographer, Jiří Pokorný. For all the original performances, the author of the music, conductor and recordings and Fountain choreographer is Miloslav Janíček, and the author of the dialogues and lyrics is Ivan Hladík.
