After graduating from the Prague Dance Conservatory in 1966 he became a member and for five years soloist of the National Theatre in Prague. In his career spanning over twenty five years he has danced the main male roles in practically all the best known titles: Romeo and Mercuccio, the Prince in Swan Lake, in Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella, Spartacus, Radúza, Duke Albert in Giselle, Adam in Creation of the World etc. He has enjoyed successes at home and abroad; in 1984-86 he won the television viewers' competition for dancer of the year, he has worked in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, in the Scottish Royal Ballet and in other ensembles. From 1990 to 2002 he was the head of ballet at the National Theatre in Prague, and also worked here as a director and choreographer. He wrote the libretto for the ballets Broučci and Někdo to rád ... He is also a film and theatre actor (Markéta Lazarová, Den pro mou lásku, Panna a netvor, Operace mé dcery, Jak vytrhnout velrybě stoličku or Jak dostat tatínka do polepšovny). He has appeared on the theatre stage in the musicals Beauty and the Beast and Babička. At present he co-operates as a choreographer and teacher with the State Theatre in Košice and prepares stage projects for Křižík's fountain.
